How I Fought Militants, Boko Haram, IPOB Without a Scar — CP Adeoye

Anambra State’s retired Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, has shared his incredible journey of surviving encounters with the most dangerous groups in Nigeria without sustaining a single injury. During his retirement ceremony at Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, Adeoye reflected on his service in which he faced Niger Delta militants, Boko Haram terrorists in the North East, and the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) insurgents in the South East.

“It is to the glory of God that with gunshots and bombs, I did not have a scar. Part of what led to my success was that I had served in Anambra State for 10 years earlier under seven Commissioners of Police,” Adeoye said at the ceremony.

The Commissioner credited his survival to God’s grace and thanked Nigeria for the opportunities he had during his service. He mentioned that the training and experiences gained during his career prepared him for retirement.

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim, praised Adeoye’s contributions to security in the state. “There is a time to begin and a time to end in everything. We knew today would come. The CP came to Anambra and has played his role meritoriously,” Dr. Ibezim remarked.

Adeoye’s tenure in Anambra coincided with Governor Soludo’s efforts to address insecurity, especially during a time when people had taken refuge in the bush to avoid violence. Dr. Ibezim commended Adeoye for his unique style, dedication, and sincere approach to policing, stating that Anambra is now much calmer.

Despite Adeoye’s success, the Deputy Governor acknowledged that his retirement was inevitable. “If it were in our hands, we would say, let this good man continue because we are happy with his works. But the law says he has to retire,” he explained.

In recognition of Adeoye’s service, a street has been named after him, and numerous awards are being prepared to honor his contributions to the state.
