How Gunmen Attacked, Robbed Bank Customer, Injured Police Officer
Gunmen on Monday attacked a bank customer in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, robbing him of an undisclosed amount of money and injuring a police officer during the operation.
The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. along Secretariat Road, Agodi, in the Ibadan North Local Government Area. Eyewitnesses said the victim had withdrawn a large sum of money from a commercial bank before being trailed by the assailants, who intercepted his car near the Osuntokun area.
One witness, who preferred not to be named, told reporters that the attackers shot sporadically to scare people away before forcing the man to hand over the money. “The robbers had followed him from the bank. They stopped him suddenly, collected the money, and shot at a police officer who tried to stop them,” she said.
Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, said the victim was driving a metallic grey Nissan Primera with registration number EPE 901 PS when he was attacked and robbed.
He added that a police officer sustained serious injuries during a confrontation between the patrol team and the suspects. The injured officer is currently receiving medical treatment at a secure health facility, and no fatalities have been recorded.
“The command has launched an extensive investigation into the robbery and urges residents to provide credible information that could help in apprehending the perpetrators,” Osifeso said.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat, assured the public that the command is intensifying security patrols across the city to prevent similar incidents and ensure the safety of lives and property.
