In a heart-wrenching incident that sent shockwaves through the community, two cross breed dogs claimed the life of a five-year-old child and inflicted injuries upon the child’s mother. The unfortunate event unfolded in Hallelujah Estate, Osogbo’s capital, leaving residents in a state of agony.
Eyewitnesses recounted the horrifying ordeal that transpired when the woman and her young daughter were passing by a vacant building in the neighborhood. The two dogs, which had been left alone in the building for an extended period, suddenly emerged and brutally separated the mother and child.
Tragedy struck as the dogs swiftly attacked and killed the innocent child, leaving the distraught mother to helplessly witness the horrifying scene. Her desperate attempts to rescue her daughter from the jaws of the bloodthirsty dogs were in vain.
In a shocking turn of events, after ending the life of the child, the dogs turned their aggression towards the mother. The woman suffered multiple bites on her buttock as the dogs pounced on her. Fortunately, quick-witted passers-by who had witnessed the gruesome scene promptly called for help and managed to rescue the injured mother from the clutches of the ferocious animals.
Sodiq Abass, a resident of the area, expressed his grief over the incident, revealing that the dogs had been confined within the building for an extended duration. He explained that the tragedy could partially be attributed to the absence of residents, making it challenging to respond swiftly to distress calls.
“The dogs seemed determined to eliminate the mother after taking the life of her daughter. It is a devastating situation, made worse by the fact that help arrived too late for the young girl,” Abass lamented.
In response to the incident, Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police command, confirmed that the police were fully aware of the distressing occurrence. Opalola assured the public that efforts were underway to locate and apprehend the owner of the house where the dogs had been housed.
The tragedy serves as a grim reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership and the potential dangers that unchecked animals can pose to both individuals and the community at large. As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of a young life and hopes for justice to be served.
