Hotel Workers Charged with Theft of N1.5 Million Worth of Foodstuffs
Two hotel employees, Austine Francis and Regina Gabriel, have been arraigned before an Ejigbo magistrates’ court on charges of stealing food items valued at approximately N1.5 million.
According to the Lagos State police, the accused individuals allegedly pilfered the food items from the hotel’s storage facility. Inspector Simeon Njue, the prosecutor in the case, informed the court that their arrest followed a report filed at the Shashsa Division.
He stated, “My lord, while at the station, the accused persons agreed that they would repay the stolen amount and requested a grace period. However, during the course of the investigation, the accused later expressed their inability to reimburse the sum, citing their limited salaries as the reason.”
The case was brought to the court’s attention at the insistence of the hotel’s management. Magistrate Mrs. A. K. Dosumu-Uthan granted bail to the accused in the amount of N200,000 each, with two sureties required to provide the same sum. The case has been adjourned to November 8 for further proceedings.
