Horror in Anambra: Gunmen Slaughter Family of Four in Midnight Attack

A shocking and brutal attack unfolded in Isseke, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, on the night of May 22, 2025, when unknown gunmen stormed a family home and mercilessly killed four members of the household. The victims, three women and an elderly man, were reportedly shot dead while they slept, leaving the community in deep mourning and fear.

The family has been identified as belonging to Ichie Kennedy Igboanugo, also known as Ichie Akuruoulo 1 of Isseke, from the Ekwuru community. Residents described the attack as unprovoked and expressed alarm at the ruthless nature of the crime, which has sent shockwaves through the local area.

Anambra State Police Command spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident on Friday. He revealed that the bodies were discovered lying lifeless in their rooms and have since been taken to the mortuary. “Preliminary investigations indicate that the assailants launched a surprise attack on the elderly man and his family members without any known motive,” Ikenga said.

In response to the attack, a joint security team comprising police, military, and other security operatives has cordoned off the area to prevent further violence and to hunt down the perpetrators. The security forces are currently following leads and working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.

SP Ikenga extended condolences to the grieving relatives and assured the public that the command is fully committed to ensuring the safety of the community and cracking the case. The police have urged anyone with information to come forward as investigations continue.
