In a peculiar case highlighting the plight of the homeless, Monday Ojo, a 20-year-old man without a fixed address, was presented before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. He stands accused of breaking into a residence and pilfering essential food items, including a pot of soup, ‘fufu’, noodles, onions, and salt.
According to Inspector Moyosola Adesola, who presented the case, the alleged incident occurred on March 14 at noon in the vicinity of Falegan, Ilawe Road, Ado-Ekiti. The defendant purportedly entered the residence of Mrs. Modupe Ajala, absconding with foodstuffs valued at N300,000.
Despite the charges of housebreaking and theft leveled against him, Monday Ojo pleaded not guilty to the accusations.
In response to the charges, Chief Magistrate Mrs. Taiwo Ajibade granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000, requiring one surety to stand in like sum.
The case is adjourned until April 23 for further proceedings, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
