“High Electricity Tariff Killing Businesses” – APC Chieftain Joe Igbokwe Cries Out

Joe Igbokwe, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently address the rising electricity tariffs in Nigeria, warning that the increased rates could cripple businesses nationwide.

In a post shared on his Facebook page on Saturday, Igbokwe expressed concern over the exorbitant cost of electricity, noting that a N20,000 purchase of electricity units now lasts only one day. The APC stalwart emphasized that without swift government intervention, businesses—particularly small enterprises—could face severe financial strain.

Igbokwe, a strong supporter of Tinubu, detailed his personal experience, explaining that his small office in Surulere, equipped with seven air conditioning units, had seen a drastic reduction in the value of electricity purchased under the new Band A tariff group.

“I used to get over 300 units for N20,000. Yesterday, I bought the same amount and it only lasted for a day. This situation is unsustainable for businesses,” he lamented. He urged the government to review and reconsider the current electricity pricing structure to prevent further damage to the business sector.
