High Court Judge Kidnapped, Orderly Slain in Akwa Ibom
On Monday, unidentified gunmen abducted Justice Joy Uwanna, a high court judge in Akwa Ibom State, along with her driver, in the Oron Local Government Area. Tragically, the judge’s orderly lost his life during the attack on the Uyo-Okobo road.
Toroscho Eyene, the Chairman of the Oron branch of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), confirmed the distressing event on Tuesday. According to Eyene, the abduction took place as Justice Joy Uwanna was returning to Uyo after a court session.
Expressing deep concern, Eyene revealed that the NBA members have arranged a meeting with the State Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durusinmi, and the Department of State Services (DSS) on Wednesday to discuss the situation. He emphasized the urgency of addressing the security challenges faced by legal professionals.
The Public Relations Officer of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, Odiko Macdon, was unavailable for comments at the time of filing this report. The incident adds to the growing concerns about security in the region, prompting heightened attention from law enforcement authorities and legal bodies.
