Helicopter Crash Kills One in English Channel

 

 

A UK Royal Navy member has tragically lost their life after a helicopter crashed into the English Channel during a night-flying exercise. The incident occurred on Wednesday night off the coast of Dorset, involving a Merlin Mk4 helicopter taking part in a training drill with the HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier.

 

The Royal Navy confirmed the news on Thursday, expressing deep sorrow over the loss. In their official statement, they said, “It is with great sadness that we must report a member of the Royal Navy has died following a training incident last night. Our thoughts are with the family and all those affected at this sad time.”

 

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, but their family has been informed. According to the Royal Navy, no other personnel were seriously injured or killed in the crash. A full investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the accident.

 

The Merlin helicopter, which is often used in anti-submarine warfare and transport missions, was conducting a night-flying exercise when it went down. The HMS Queen Elizabeth, described as the largest and most powerful vessel in the Royal Navy, was the base for the operation. The aircraft carrier is capable of carrying up to 40 aircraft.
