Another Deadly Air Incident in India Leaves Seven Dead

India has been rocked by yet another aviation disaster, as a helicopter crash in the northern state of Uttarakhand claimed the lives of seven people on Sunday. The incident comes just three days after the deadly India Air plane crash in Ahmedabad that killed more than 270 people.

The helicopter, a Bell 407 operated by Aryan Aviation and registered as VT-BKA, was flying from Kedarnath to Guptkashi along a popular Himalayan pilgrimage route when it went missing. According to reports, the aircraft was carrying five passengers, including a child, and one crew member. The Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation confirmed that the pilot and a two-year-old child were among those who died. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has launched an inquiry into the cause of the crash.

At approximately 5:30 AM, the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Department received reports that the helicopter, which had departed from Shri Kedarnath Dham, had lost contact. The wreckage was later found near Gaurikund, a key stop on the Kedarnath pilgrimage trail. Rescue operations led by the State Disaster Response Force and local authorities are currently underway. Officials described the tragedy as “very sad news.”

This latest crash adds to the national grief already deepened by the recent India Air disaster in Ahmedabad. That crash, involving a Boeing 787, devastated a residential neighborhood and left a death toll that continues to rise. As of Saturday, the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad reported it had received 270 bodies. Only one passenger survived the crash and remains under observation, though doctors say he is recovering well and may be discharged soon.

Efforts to identify the victims continue, with DNA matching underway due to the severe burns and mutilation of many of the bodies. Hundreds of grieving families have submitted DNA samples in the hope of finding closure amid the tragedy.

The back-to-back incidents have raised serious concerns about aviation safety in the country and prompted calls for a thorough investigation into both crashes.
