‘He Shot Me in a Dream’: Man Who Beat Brother to Death Tells Police
A 43-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his elder brother after claiming the deceased attacked him in a dream.
Lateef Suleiman, of Alegunlode Compound, reportedly believed that his 52-year-old brother, Mustapha Amidu, had shot him while he slept. Instead of dismissing the dream, Suleiman allegedly struck Amidu on the head with a heavy rock and fled the scene.
Oyo State Police spokesperson DSP Ayanlade Olayinka said in a statement, “Lateef Suleiman attacked his elder brother following an accusation that the deceased had shot him in a dream. He allegedly approached the deceased, struck him on the head with a rock, and left the scene immediately.”
Amidu was rushed to Ileri Oluwa Hospital in Sepeteri but was pronounced dead by the attending doctor. Police from Ago-Amodu Divisional Headquarters visited both the scene and the hospital as part of preliminary investigations.
Suleiman was later tracked down and arrested. According to the police, he has confessed and is cooperating with investigators.
Commissioner of Police CP Femi Haruna has ordered the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a detailed inquiry. The command described the investigation as “discreet and comprehensive” and assured the public that justice would be pursued according to the law.
