‘He Disobeyed Ritual Instructions’ – Native Doctor Speaks on Death of Overseas-Bound Client During Ritual
A native doctor from Inyi, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, has blamed the death of his client, Chikwado Eze, on the client’s failure to follow ritual instructions. Enuwa Odugu, the native doctor in question, claimed that the tragic outcome was a result of Eze’s disobedience during a fortification ritual meant to guarantee success in his overseas business ventures.
Speaking from police custody, Odugu said, “He disobeyed the rules, and that is why he died.” The 48-year-old native doctor explained that Eze, who had recently secured a visa to travel abroad, was undergoing a ritual that involved being buried alive for one and a half hours as part of a fortification process. According to Odugu, this was not the first time he had performed such rituals, though he insisted that Eze’s failure to follow the prescribed steps led to the fatal outcome.
The Enugu State Police Command confirmed that both Odugu and Eze’s father, Uwakwe Eze, along with other accomplices, have been arrested. Police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe stated that the investigation is ongoing, and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of Eze’s death. Eze’s body was transported to a hospital after the incident, where he was pronounced dead and later moved to a mortuary.
Ndukwe further noted that Odugu confessed to conducting similar rituals for clients in the past but reiterated that the young man’s death was linked to his failure to comply with specific ritual rules.
The police have also emphasized the dangers of participating in such harmful traditional practices, urging the public to avoid rituals that could pose serious risks to life. As investigations continue, the authorities assured that all those involved will face the full weight of the law.
