Hardship: Be Thankful, a Living Dog is Better Than a Dead Lion – Pastor Adeboye Charges Nigerians

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has called on Nigerians to cultivate a spirit of gratitude to God, even in the face of life’s difficulties. Speaking at the church’s annual thanksgiving service held at the RCCG national headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, the cleric stressed the importance of recognizing God’s mercy, especially during tough times.

Addressing the economic challenges and the rising cost of living in the country, Pastor Adeboye reminded attendees that life itself is a gift worth celebrating. Quoting the Bible, he said, “A living dog is better than a dead lion,” emphasizing that as long as one is alive, there is hope for a better tomorrow. “If you don’t know what to thank God for, thank Him for His mercy. You are alive today not because of your ability, strength, or wisdom but because of His mercy,” he added.

Reflecting on the value of life, Pastor Adeboye recalled the struggles many faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly the need for oxygen masks to survive. He noted that the ability to breathe freely is often taken for granted, yet it is a sign of hope. “As long as you can breathe, those who have written you off will be surprised because your tomorrow will be alright,” he reassured.

He also encouraged Nigerians to practice gratitude for the simple blessings of life, such as mental stability and clothing. “Maybe you didn’t have new clothes for Christmas, but you are not naked, and that shows you are not crazy,” he said. Pastor Adeboye drew a parallel with the biblical story of King Nebuchadnezzar, who, despite his wealth and power, was reduced to roaming naked among animals when he lost his sanity.

In his message, the pastor also expressed concern about the growing trend of indecent dressing, which he described as a modern form of nakedness. “Today, we see people exposing what clothes are supposed to cover. They celebrate this on television, but it’s not right,” he stated, urging a return to modesty and decency in attire.

The service, themed “All Round Praise,” served as a reminder of the importance of gratitude, faith, and decency in navigating life’s challenges while trusting in God’s provision and mercy.
