At least 18 people have been killed after armed attackers raided Bunkasau village in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to Channels Television, the assailants—estimated to be more than 80—arrived on motorcycles and opened fire on residents around 9 p.m. on Friday.
The incident was confirmed on Saturday by Mahmud Dantawasa, the state commissioner for information and culture. In a statement, he expressed condolences to the victims and described the attack as deeply distressing for both the government and residents.
“The government extends its sympathy to the people of Bunkasau in Zarumai district following the loss of lives and destruction caused by the attack,” the statement said. “This violence has left many families in grief and uncertainty.”
Dantawasa said the state government is offering support to affected families and praying for those who lost their lives.
He also reiterated the administration’s commitment under Governor Dauda Lawal to strengthen security measures and prevent further attacks.
Authorities have urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing reliable information that could help address ongoing insecurity in the area.
