Gunmen Attack Chris Ngige’s Convoy in Anambra, One Woman Killed, Several Injured
Gunmen opened fire on the convoy of Chris Ngige along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North, leaving one woman dead and several people injured. Ngige, a former governor of Anambra State, was not in the convoy when the attackers struck.
According to his former media aide, Sir Fred Chukwuelobe, the assailants—reported to be dressed in police and military uniforms—shot a policeman in the pilot vehicle and made off with his weapon and uniform. The vehicle was left riddled with bullets.
A woman who attempted to record the attack on her phone was shot and killed. A shop owner who rushed toward the scene was also hit; he suffered heavy blood loss and is scheduled for surgery to remove the bullets. He is said to be stable and expected to recover fully. The escort leader who sustained gunshot injuries has already undergone surgery and is also expected to make a full recovery.
Chukwuelobe said he spoke with Ngige, who confirmed the incident and assured that those injured are receiving proper medical attention. He also conveyed condolences to the family of the woman who was killed.
The Anambra State Police have not yet issued an official statement on the attack.
