Gunmen Attack Abuja-Bound GUO Bus, Passengers Injured in Ambush
In a disturbing incident on Tuesday, gunmen attacked an Abuja-bound bus belonging to GUO Transport Company along the Akunu axis of Ondo State, leaving several passengers injured. The assailants, believed to be kidnappers, opened fire on the bus, riddling the vehicle with bullet holes. Blood stains were visible on the front seats, suggesting that some passengers had been hurt during the attack.
A video published by Sahara Reporters showed the aftermath of the ambush, with the driver of the bus thanking God for his safety despite the extensive damage to the vehicle. The driver pointed to the bullet marks, remarking, “Can you see how they damaged the vehicle with bullets?”
The attack occurred between Akunu in Ondo State and Ayere in Kogi State, an area known for frequent kidnappings and banditry, despite the presence of regular police checkpoints. A social media user familiar with the situation described how the kidnappers opened fire just minutes after the bus had passed a police checkpoint on its route.
In the aftermath, a passenger can be heard advising others to re-enter the bus to allow the driver some rest. Attempts to reach GUO Transport for comment were unsuccessful, as the company’s automated response stated they were currently off work hours. As of the time of reporting, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command had not responded to multiple requests for a statement.
