Gunmen Abduct Three Estate Residents in Abuja’s Kubwa Area
An estate situated along Kuchibiyi in the Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) fell victim to a daring abduction, with at least three residents reportedly taken hostage. This harrowing incident unfolded under the shroud of darkness on a Thursday night, sending shockwaves through the local community.
The perpetrators, believed to be armed gunmen, are said to have executed their sinister plan, leaving residents in a state of fear and uncertainty. According to a security source within the estate, the assailants, numbering over 20, carried out their attack around 9 p.m. with a brazen display of firepower.
The security source, who was part of the estate’s vigilant group, described the unsettling scene: “On Thursday around 9 p.m., we (vigilante) heard a gunshot. After hearing the sound, we and some Nigeria Mobile Police (MOPOL) officers searched around to locate it. On our way, we saw one of us. He told us they were kidnappers, numbering over 20. He was shot in his hand. At that point, we heard another gunshot. They were shooting at us, while the officers were shooting too. We had to stop the counter-attack because of their number. They took away three persons; a couple and a man. The kidnappers haven’t contacted anyone yet.”
Disturbingly, it has been reported that the assailants managed to disable the alert systems of the targeted houses before making their escape, further raising concerns about the audacity of the operation.
This unfortunate incident bears a grim resemblance to a previous attack in March, when the same estate witnessed the abduction of at least nine individuals. Residents of the community have expressed their deep concern about the safety and security of the area, with the victims in this most recent attack being taken from separate apartments within the estate.
As the community grapples with this horrifying event, law enforcement agencies are expected to intensify their efforts to ensure the safe return of the abducted residents and bring the perpetrators of these crimes to justice. The residents of Abuja’s Kubwa area anxiously await any updates on the situation as they hope for a swift resolution to this distressing ordeal.
