Guinness World Record: Nigerian Wigmaker Helen Williams Creates History with the Longest Handmade Wig
In a groundbreaking achievement, Lagos, South West Nigeria, witnessed history unfold as renowned hair wigmaker, Helen Williams, crafted the world’s longest handmade wig, measuring an astonishing 351.28 meters.
Williams dedicated 11 days to this record-breaking endeavor, investing over two million Naira in materials to bring her vision to life. The meticulous creation utilized 1,000 bundles of human hair, 12 cans of hair spray, 35 tubes of hair glue, and an impressive 6,250 hair clips, showcasing her expertise in the craft.
The challenge, though demanding, proved surmountable for the seasoned wigmaker. Williams faced difficulties in finding a suitable venue to lay the extensive wig for accurate measurement. Despite setbacks, she triumphed by completing the monumental task on the layby along the Lagos-Abeokuta motorway, labeling the achievement as remarkable.
One of the key hurdles she encountered was securing adequate space to lay the wig in a straight line and measure it accurately. None of the venues she visited provided enough room until she found success on the layby along the Lagos-Abeokuta motorway.
The Guinness Book of World Records officially acknowledged Helen Williams’ achievement, updating its records with a post on its “X” account. Accompanied by a video showcasing the intricate process, the post reads, “Helen Williams from Lagos, Nigeria, has achieved a new record for the longest handmade wig, which stretches an incredible 351.28 meters (1,152 ft 5 in).”
This remarkable feat adds another chapter to Nigeria’s growing list of Guinness World Records, solidifying Helen Williams’ place as a trailblazer in the world of wigmaking.
