Guinness Confirms Nigerian Engineer’s 60-Hour Coding Record

Guinness World Records has confirmed Nigerian-born cloud engineer Abel Yakubu as the holder of the record for the Longest Computer Programming Lesson.

Yakubu, a cloud engineer with NexEdge Technologies in Germany, completed the 60-hour programming lesson in Abuja between November 21 and 23. The session surpassed the previous record of 48 hours and 15 minutes.

According to Guinness World Records, the attempt was conducted under strict guidelines and monitored by independent witnesses. Yakubu led the continuous lesson with the support of multiple participants, while the programme was streamed live on major online platforms.

“I, Abel Yakubu of NexEdge Technologies, have been approved as the Guinness World Record title holder for the Longest Computer Programming Lesson,” he said in a statement.

The lesson focused on cloud computing technologies, including Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Yakubu, who has over a decade of experience in cloud engineering, said the exercise was designed to strengthen technical capacity and encourage collaboration among aspiring developers.

Yakubu said he prepared for the challenge over a two-month period, noting that sustaining concentration during overnight sessions was the most demanding aspect.

He said the record attempt was motivated by a desire to inspire young people to acquire relevant digital skills, particularly as artificial intelligence and cloud technologies continue to shape global industries. He added that he has trained more than 200 people in technology-related skills and encouraged parents to support their children’s interest in digital education.

The achievement adds to Nigeria’s growing presence in global technology and skills development initiatives.
