Grieving Man Dies by Suicide Days After Losing Wife
A man identified as Mr. Stephen, aged 30, died by suicide in Ikumi Shako Ward, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State, days after losing his wife. The heartbreaking incident occurred on Thursday, following what family and friends described as a prolonged period of emotional turmoil and depression after the passing of his second wife in March 2025.
According to those close to him, Stephen had openly struggled to cope with the loss and often said he couldn’t imagine life without her. His deteriorating mental state had become evident to those around him.
On the morning of the incident, neighbours reported seeing Stephen with a hunting gun but were uncertain of his intentions. Hours later, his body was discovered in a secluded part of the community with a gunshot wound to the head. The firearm was found beside him.
Sources confirmed that his first wife is still alive, and he leaves behind two children.
Reacting to the incident, Comrade Adamu Haruna, the Gurara Coordinator of the Nigeria Youth Council, expressed deep sadness over the loss and called for increased awareness around mental health, particularly in times of bereavement.
