Governor Umo Eno Appoints Daughter as Acting First Lady Following Wife’s Death

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has appointed his daughter, Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki, as the acting First Lady, following the passing of his wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno. The decision was announced as part of efforts to preserve and continue the late First Lady’s legacy, particularly her signature initiative, the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA).

The announcement was made public during a condolence visit by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who praised the move as a thoughtful way to honor the memory of Pastor Patience. Tinubu noted, “This is a commendable way to sustain Patience’s legacy, much like we’ve seen in other nations.”

Governor Eno, reflecting on his profound connection with his late wife, shared memories of their 40-year marriage. “I married her when she was 19, and I was 22. She was my gift from God, my virtuous woman,” he said.

Introducing his daughter to the public, Governor Eno expressed confidence in her ability to carry on the work of the First Lady’s office. “It is not an easy task, but I present our daughter, Helen, to continue the duties of the office,” he said.

In her remarks, Senator Tinubu offered words of encouragement to Helen, noting the faith her late mother had in her. “Your mom didn’t bring you to me for nothing. I trust that God will guide you in this role,” she said.

Governor Eno also addressed speculation about remarrying, humorously dismissing the idea. “I’m not considering remarrying anytime soon. I don’t have the money to pay another bride price,” he quipped, underscoring his commitment to upholding his late wife’s legacy through his daughter’s work.

Helen Eno Obareki will now oversee the activities of the First Lady’s office, including the continuation of programmes championed by her mother.
