Governor Rotimi Akeredolu Succumbs to Illness in Lagos at Age 67

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has passed away at the age of 67. The unfortunate incident reportedly occurred in Lagos on Wednesday.

Sources reveal that Governor Akeredolu had been under the care of State House doctors until his demise, as his health condition prevented him from being flown abroad for treatment. Last week, efforts were reportedly made to secure dialysis machines for him at a secret location in Lagos.

The late governor’s health struggles began earlier when he returned to Nigeria in September after a three-month medical leave in Germany. Subsequently, he went on another medical leave upon the directive of President Bola Tinubu, during which Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa assumed the role of acting governor.

The decision of Governor Akeredolu to govern from Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital, after his return in September sparked public outrage. Despite facing health challenges, he attempted to fulfill his duties remotely.

In a poignant development, First Lady Betty Akeredolu has announced the suspension of activities planned for her 70th birthday celebration. The decision came amid concerns about hosting festivities while her husband was unwell. Betty conveyed the message through her Twitter handle, expressing regret for any inconvenience caused and assuring that she would be celebrated in style upon her return.

Ondo State now mourns the loss of Governor Akeredolu, and Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa continues to fulfill the responsibilities of the office in the interim.
