Governor Obaseki Fullfils N70,000 Minimum Wage for Edo State Workers

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has successfully implemented the promised increase in the minimum wage for state workers to N70,000. This adjustment, which was first announced during the inauguration of the Labour House in Benin earlier this year, takes effect with the May salary payments.

Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, confirmed the implementation in a press statement yesterday, highlighting the administration’s dedication to improving worker welfare. Nehikhare noted, “The government has paid May salaries, reflecting the implementation of the N70,000 new minimum wage. This fulfills Governor Obaseki’s commitment to increase the minimum wage from N40,000 to N70,000, starting this May, as part of efforts to mitigate the harsh economic conditions.”

The increase in minimum wage underscores the administration’s resolve to meet its statutory obligations promptly, even before the end of the month. Nehikhare also called on workers to remain dedicated to their roles, contributing to the overall success of the governor’s term.

In related news, Governor Obaseki recently inaugurated five out of eight judges, and he continues to work on various projects aimed at improving the state’s infrastructure and governance.
