Governor Mutfwang Imposes 24-Hour Curfew to Restore Order in Jos North, Bukuru

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has announced a 24-hour curfew for Jos North and the Bukuru metropolis, effective from midnight on August 4, 2024. The curfew is aimed at enhancing security and maintaining public order in response to recent unrest.

The decision follows reports of criminal activities, including looting and violence, by individuals exploiting the nationwide protest. Governor Mutfwang, in a statement issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, explained that these actions involved armed assailants breaking into businesses and causing significant disruption.

Governor Mutfwang emphasized that the curfew is crucial for the safety of residents and called on all citizens to comply fully. He directed state security agencies to enforce the curfew strictly and warned that any further attempts to disrupt public peace would be met with severe consequences.

The governor also expressed gratitude to the citizens, clergy, and imams for their support and adherence to government directives during the protest. He commended their peaceful conduct and urged continued commitment to unity and peace in Plateau State.
