Governor Fubara: Defected Lawmakers’ Seats Remain Vacant, Budget Prep Underway for 2025

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has affirmed that the seats of 26 defected lawmakers, including Martin Amaewhule, remain vacant following their departure from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress. Governor Fubara declared this stance during a solidarity visit from opinion leaders, women, and youths of Etche and Omuma Local Government Areas at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Governor Fubara emphasized that the defected lawmakers chose to voluntarily leave their party, thereby leaving their seats vacant. He expressed confidence that they would eventually return, noting, “They desired it to be so when they voluntarily defected from the platform on which they won their election voluntarily.”

Governor Fubara further disclosed that his administration has initiated preparations for the 2025 budget, with a primary focus on education, healthcare, and agriculture. “Agriculture is an area that we have promised the very special and peace-loving people of Rivers State that our 2025 budget, which we have already started preparing, will address,” he assured.

Addressing recent challenges and allegations, Governor Fubara underscored his commitment to governance and criticized detractors, stating, “Don’t bother about those people who are delusional. They think we are still sleeping.”

He reiterated his administration’s dedication to improving public services, emphasizing the importance of quality education and healthcare facilities. “Our children need to go to quality schools,” he remarked, “and we need good health facilities owned by the government to provide standard healthcare services.”

Regarding the defections and ongoing political dynamics, Governor Fubara concluded, “Being loyal does not mean losing one’s liberty, sense of discretion, and what is right,” affirming his stance on governance without compromise.

The Governor’s remarks come amidst ongoing preparations for the state’s future and continued efforts to address public needs effectively.
