Gov Otti won’t oppose Tinubu’s re-election bid — Abia LP lawmaker Ginger Onwusibe

A lawmaker representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency, Ginger Onwusibe, has said Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, is not expected to oppose President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Onwusibe made the statement on Sunday at Lohum Umuimenyi in Bende Local Government Area during the flag-off of the “Project Switch On Bende,” a community infrastructure initiative.

He said his comments reflected personal views, but maintained that Otti’s political disposition and capacity within Abia would align with support for the President’s second-term ambition. He added that, in his assessment, both Tinubu and Otti had delivered performance levels that justify continued mandates.

The lawmaker, who is a member of the Labour Party in Abia State, also referenced his years of political experience across multiple administrations in the state, including those of Orji Uzor Kalu, T.A. Orji, and Okezie Ikpeazu, stating that Otti had, in his view, outperformed previous governors and deserved a second term.

The event featured remarks from Chief Frank Chinasa, who said the solar-powered street light project was designed to improve public safety and restore trust in governance. He explained that the initiative had led to the installation of 486 solar street lights across Uzuakoli and Umuimenyi Ward within a few months, supported through the Niger Delta Development Commission’s “Operation Light Up the Niger Delta” programme.

The Niger Delta Development Commission, according to him, collaborated on the rollout to expand lighting infrastructure in underserved communities.

Chinasa said the project would allow businesses to operate longer hours while enhancing security in public spaces. He urged residents to safeguard the installations and ensure their sustainability.

Local officials, including the Mayor of Bende Local Government Area, Uwabunkeonye Bassey, and the event chairman, Johnson Chukwu, commended the initiative, describing it as impactful for community development and a demonstration of effective use of influence to deliver public goods.

The Bende Federal Constituency event drew community leaders and residents from areas including Lohum Umuimenyi, with discussions centered on infrastructure delivery and governance outcomes in Abia State.
