Gov Fubara to Revive Songhai Farms Left Dormant for Eight Years Under Wike’s Administration
In a move to bolster food sufficiency and employment opportunities, the Rivers State Government, under the leadership of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has launched a comprehensive initiative to revive the Integrated Songhai Farms. This farm, left dormant for over eight years during the previous administration of Governor Nyesom Wike, is set to undergo extensive rehabilitation.
Governor Fubara announced the commencement of rehabilitation efforts during the SIMplified Movement Thanksgiving service over the weekend, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to transforming the agricultural landscape. The Songhai Farms, once thriving under the governance of former Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, suffered from neglect, resulting in its closure during Governor Wike’s tenure.
Represented by Hon Evans Bapakaye Bipi at the thanksgiving event, Governor Fubara expressed a strong commitment to restoring the farm’s operations. The revival initiative is not only aimed at achieving food sufficiency but also at providing significant employment opportunities for the state’s youth, aligning with the governor’s vision for a prosperous and self-sufficient Rivers State.
The vice-chairman of PDP in Rivers West Senatorial District, Hon Robinson Ewoh, commended Governor Fubara’s prioritization of the people’s welfare, contrasting it with the alleged mismanagement of public resources during the previous administration. Governor Fubara had previously visited the abandoned farm on July 10, 2023, expressing regret over its neglect and pledging to seek private partnerships to revive the internationally acclaimed Integrated zero waste farm for the benefit of the state’s residents.
