Good Samaritan Dies While Separating Fight Between Couple in FCT

A middle-aged man, Joseph Ayuba, tragically lost his life while attempting to break up a fight between a couple in the Dogon-Ruwa community of Abaji Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to local resident Barnabas Yakubu, the incident occurred around 5:23 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. Ayuba had just returned from his farm and was about to bathe when he heard a commotion involving his neighbours. Upon hearing the husband physically assaulting his wife, Ayuba immediately dropped his bathing items and rushed out to intervene.

In the process of trying to separate the fighting couple, Ayuba suddenly slumped. He was quickly rushed to a clinic in nearby Gawu town, where medical personnel on duty confirmed him dead on arrival. Prior to the incident, Ayuba was reportedly in good health.

The tragic event prompted swift action from the community leadership. The local chief, upon being informed, directed vigilantes to arrest the couple involved. They were later handed over to security operatives in Gawu for further investigation.

One of the vigilantes, identified as Ibrahim, described the altercation as stemming from what he called “a small misunderstanding.” He also confirmed that Ayuba’s remains have been transported to his hometown of Paiko in Niger State for burial.

The Gawu divisional police have confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is ongoing.
