Good politics part 1: 5th December 2016

in Nigeria

I did promise to talk about good politics today..so here goes:

There is no one young or old who does not recognize that there are problems in the PDP today. In fact there have been problems since 1999.

Modu Sherriff is not the first major drama…

Can’t you recall how Chris Uba locked up governor Ngige in a toilet and forced him to resign? Have you forgotten the Okija Shrine drama?

Can’t you guys recall how we heard that Chief Audu Ogbeh was forced to resign at gunpoint by Obj?

Then there was Ogbulafor, Nwodo etc…

There have been impeachments that were illegal…e.g. Alamieyeseigha, Dariye (I think only 6 people impeached him ooo) and Fayose as well. Courts of law have actually proven these cases were illegal even though the tenures had lapsed.

There has also been substitution of candidates Willy Nilly…some were on their farm when they were forced to run for governor and imposed…

All these and more perpetrated by a PDP govt against PDP aspirants, candidates and elected officials…

A PDP majority House of Reps almost impeached Obj a PDP president.

But I must commend the Late Umaru Yar’Adua and president Goodluck Jonathan for publicly admitting that plenty was wrong with our electoral and indeed political system and for preaching and following through with some level of reforms.

If I were to rate what PDP was like politically 16, 12, 8, 4 and 2 years ago I would score the party 50%, 20%, 45%, 58%, and 40% respectively. The low score is based on the terrible nature of candidate substitutions and impositions by the last NWC.

It means we had improved from the lowest level of 20% but the internal democracy and party supremacy are still not being taken seriously enough.

That is why losing the 2015 general elections might have been a blessing.

Part 2 to come
