Gombe Police Arrest Two Men After Same-Sex Payment Dispute
Gombe State Police Command has detained two men in the Kanbariki area of Kumo Local Government Area over alleged homosexual acts. Authorities are currently investigating the incident.
The suspects, Hassan Abubakar, 25, and Jibrin Ibrahim, 22, were apprehended after a violent altercation erupted between them. The dispute arose when one of the men refused to pay the other N15,000 as previously agreed upon following consensual sexual activity.
ASP Buhari Abdullahi, the spokesperson for the Command, detailed the incident during a press briefing on Tuesday. According to Abdullahi, the police were alerted to the situation by a distress call from the ward head of the area at 10:40 p.m. on July 11. Officers from the Akko Division responded promptly and arrested the two men.
The altercation reportedly began when one suspect seized the other’s phone after a disagreement over the payment, which led to a physical fight involving machetes. The commotion attracted the attention of local residents, leading to the police intervention.
“During the investigation, Jibrin Ibrahim voluntarily stated that Hassan Abubakar had promised to pay him N15,000 immediately after their consensual act,” Abdullahi revealed.
Both suspects sustained injuries during the fight and received medical treatment before being taken into police custody. While detained, they reportedly confessed to the alleged crime. The police have stated that once the investigation is concluded, the suspects will face charges in court.
In a statement to journalists, Jibrin Ibrahim claimed that Hassan Abubakar had introduced him to homosexual activities and promised payment for engaging in them.
“I was arrested on Thursday when Hassan called me to his house. He said he wanted to have carnal knowledge of me and I agreed because he promised to give me N15,000, but he later denied it. So I seized his phone. In the process of trying to get his phone back, he hit me with a machete. That is how we were exposed,” Ibrahim recounted.
The investigation remains ongoing.
