Gombe Easter Tragedy: Police Charge Truck Driver for Killing Worshippers
The Gombe State Police Command has formally charged a truck driver, Usman Muhammed, in connection with the fatal incident that claimed the lives of Christian worshippers during the Easter celebration in Billiri Local Government Area. The tragedy occurred on Monday when a truck carrying grains lost control and ploughed into a group of worshippers returning from a prayer ground in Tashan Gona.
According to a statement by police spokesperson Buhari Abdullahi, Muhammed, 28, a resident of Afghanistan Quarters, has been charged with two offences: inconsiderate driving and causing death by dangerous driving. The case will be heard at Chief Magistrate Court 7 in Gombe.
The police commended members of the public who assisted with information during the investigation and urged anyone with additional details to contact the officer in charge of the State Motor Traffic Department at the Gombe Police Area Command. Authorities have pledged to provide further updates as the legal process unfolds.
