Godswill Akpabio padded NDDC 2017 budget with N500m worth of projects

The chairman of the Senate panel on the NDDC, Peter Nwaoboshi, had alleged that Akpabio wrote to seek the leave of the panel to push his constituency projects through the Niger Delta Development Commission.

Nwaoboshi said he, as the chairman of the Senate committee during the 8th senate, granted Akpabio’s request.

The National Assembly is currently investigating the Interim Management Committee of the NDDC over allegations of reckless spending of N40billion.

The Senate committee on Niger Delta Affairs have however, released documents to justify the allegations that Akpabio requested the inclusion of N500million worth of projects in the NDDC 2017 budget.

In one of the documents released, it was seen that in August 2017, Akpabio requested for projects worth N500million from NDDC and he actually suggested the amounts each project would cost.

The projects included:

The Fencing of Federal Polytechnic Ukana Akwa Ibom North-west Senatorial District (N200m)

The Fencing of Federal Government College Ikot-Ekpene (old site), Akwa Ibom North-west Senatorial District (N100m)

Entrepreneurship training on the use of modern farming implement for Youth in Akwa Ibom North-west Senatorial District (N75m)

Senator Godswill Akpabio has since denied these allegations.
