“God forbid Peter Obi becomes President” — Fani-Kayode
Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Germany, Femi Fani-Kayode, has expressed strong opposition to the possibility of Peter Obi becoming President, stating during a media interview that such an outcome should not occur.
Speaking on Nigeria Today News Network, the former Minister of Aviation declined to explain his position but reiterated his stance emphatically.
Fani-Kayode also addressed the political ambitions of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, suggesting that he step aside from future presidential contests to allow new candidates to emerge. He acknowledged Atiku’s contributions but said it was time for others to take up the challenge.
On the state of opposition politics in Nigeria, Fani-Kayode argued that it has significantly weakened, describing it as ineffective and fragmented. He criticized opposition groups for internal disputes, saying such divisions prevent them from holding the government accountable.
Commenting on the African Democratic Congress (ADC), he dismissed the party as lacking clear direction and being primarily focused on gaining power rather than governance.
Fani-Kayode contrasted the current opposition with the earlier years of the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that the APC had been more organized and strategic in its role before eventually defeating the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
