Ganduje’s LG Chairman, Others Defect to NNPP, Dealing Blow to APC in Kano

Several Local Council chairmen elected under the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kano State have abandoned the party for the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). The defection took place during a ceremony at Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, where the defected chairmen renounced their loyalty to the APC and its National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, his Deputy Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam, NNPP state Chairman, and other prominent figures in the party crowned the defectors with the Kwankwasiyya Red-laced-with-white-cap symbol, symbolizing their allegiance to the NNPP.

Among the notable defectors is Hon. Ado Tambai Kwa, Chairman of Dawakin Tofa Local Council, representing the immediate constituency of Dr. Ganduje. Hon. Kwa, along with his Deputy Hon. Garba Yahaya Labour and other councillors, joined NNPP. Additionally, Hon. Auwalu Lawan Aramposu, Chairman of Nassarawa Local Government Council and a strong loyalist of APC’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 general elections, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, defected to NNPP. Hon. Mudassiru Aliyu, Chairman of Garun-Malam Local Government Council and an APC member, also joined the ranks of NNPP.

Governor Yusuf expressed excitement over the courage displayed by the defectors and assured them of fairness and equal treatment within NNPP. He stated, “We will magnanimously accommodate the entire APC members for the development of Kano state; to serve our people and the entire humanity.”

Governor Yusuf reiterated the state government’s commitment to enhancing socio-economic development through substantial investments in education, health, agriculture, water resources, and human empowerment. He welcomed the defectors, stating, “We are lucky that some of you have recognized the pattern of our leadership and decided to join hands with us on a mission to make Kano great. You are highly welcome home.”
