Ganduje Took Bullets for Tinubu, Nobody Is Indispensable – Dele Momodu Warns Akpabio

Veteran journalist and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Dele Momodu has described the recent resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje as a strategic sacrifice for President Bola Tinubu, warning that Senate President Godswill Akpabio could face a similar fate. In a strongly worded Facebook post on Tuesday, Momodu referred to the former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman as a “tragic hero” whose loyalty to Tinubu ultimately led to his political downfall.

Ganduje stepped down from his position last Friday, citing health reasons. However, political observers and insiders believe his resignation is part of a broader realignment within the APC, aimed at securing Tinubu’s second-term ambitions. Momodu, in his commentary, suggested Ganduje’s exit was a calculated move engineered by forces loyal to the president, noting that such tactics are consistent with Tinubu’s long-standing political playbook.

Reflecting on Tinubu’s political history, Momodu warned that no figure—regardless of rank—is safe from marginalization. He pointed to previous instances in Lagos politics where Tinubu allegedly sidelined allies, including former governors and deputy governors, to consolidate power. He cited Vice President Kashim Shettima’s diminished influence and the near-political ousting of Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as examples of this pattern.

Turning to Akpabio, Momodu urged caution, stressing that Tinubu does not tolerate competition and views all political players as expendable when necessary. “My friend Akpabio should beware,” he wrote. “This current power is absolutely for Tinubu… no one is indispensable.”

Momodu added that Ganduje is now being scapegoated for the APC’s internal troubles and noted that some analysts blame him for not rehabilitating Nasir El-Rufai’s political image after his rejection by the National Assembly—though Ganduje likely stayed clear of the issue due to the real source of that power shift.

Framing the moment as a chapter from a Machiavellian script, Momodu concluded that more casualties will emerge as Tinubu continues to assert control over the party.
