Ganduje Leads APC Leaders to Buhari’s Residence Hours After Opposition Delegation
Abdullahi Ganduje, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Friday led members of the party’s national working committee (NWC) to the Kaduna residence of former President Muhammadu Buhari, just hours after a group of opposition leaders had visited the former leader.
The APC visit came shortly after former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar arrived at Buhari’s residence with a high-profile delegation that included former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai, former Sokoto State governor Aminu Tambuwal, and former communications minister Isa Pantami.
Following the opposition visit, el-Rufai told journalists the meeting was not political and urged “adversaries” not to lose sleep over it.
Though the APC has not disclosed details of its own meeting with Buhari, the timing of the visit has stirred speculation, particularly as it comes on the heels of a recent visit by APC governors led by Imo State governor and Progressives Governors Forum chairman, Hope Uzodimma. That visit was said to be for Sallah greetings and a show of respect following the Ramadan fast.
The flurry of visits comes amid growing speculation about a possible split within the APC, particularly involving the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) bloc—one of the four parties that merged in 2013 to form the APC, and Buhari’s original political base.
Despite the swirling rumors, Buhari has publicly reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, stating he has no intention of leaving the party.
However, concerns persist within the party. Late Friday, APC senator Ali Ndume warned that President Bola Tinubu should be concerned if Buhari throws his weight behind the emerging coalition of opposition figures.
