Ganduje Highlights Missed Opportunity for South East Presidency During Ekwueme Era at Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s Mega Empowerment Rally
National Chairman of the All Progressives Alliance (APC), Dr. Umar Abdulahi Ganduje, emphasized the South East’s lost chance at the presidency during the tenure of Dr. Alex Ekwueme as vice president. Speaking at a mega empowerment rally in Nnewi, Anambra State, organized by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, Ganduje urged the region to align with the ruling party to end marginalization.
Ganduje recalled the era when Shehu Shagari was considering Ekwueme as his successor, highlighting the strong possibility of Ekwueme assuming the presidency had the military not intervened. He underscored the importance of political alignment, citing it as the pathway to ending marginalization and ensuring political freedom.
Expressing astonishment at the massive turnout at the rally, Ganduje commended Ubah’s mobilization efforts and affirmed the readiness of the South East to engage in mainstream politics. The rally, focused on empowerment, saw the distribution of various items including motorcycles, tricycles, generators, and foodstuffs to attendees.
Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, praised President Bola Tinubu’s boldness in confronting longstanding challenges such as fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification. He highlighted the temporary hunger resulting from these measures and emphasized the distribution of palliatives as a response to address immediate needs.
In response, Ubah, a 2025 APC gubernatorial aspirant, reiterated the commitment of Anambra people to integrate into mainstream politics by electing an APC governor. The rally served as a platform to galvanize support and emphasize the importance of political alignment for the region’s development and representation at the national level.
