Full List: Lagos Government Unveils Locations for Discounted Food Markets Across the State
The Lagos state government has taken a significant step towards easing the economic burden on its residents by announcing the locations for discounted food markets across the state.
In a bid to address the prevailing economic challenges faced by its citizens, the Lagos state government, on February 22, unveiled a series of interventions aimed at providing relief to the populace.
In a statement released on Friday, Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, revealed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed the commencement of discounted food markets, named ‘Ounje Eko’, across the five divisions of Lagos, effective from Sunday.
The commissioner emphasized that a variety of essential food items, including rice, beans, garri, bread, eggs, tomatoes, and pepper, will be available at a discounted rate of 25 percent for residents.
To ensure transparency and prevent unethical practices in the distribution process, Omotoso highlighted the implementation of a voucher system as the pilot scheme commences. Independent payment solution providers and food vendors have been meticulously selected to operate the process, while also providing real-time data for monitoring purposes.
Furthermore, in a bid to enhance transparency, the prices of the listed food items have been made available to the public through various media outlets.
