Full List: Anambra Police Crack Down on Cult Activity: Seven Suspects Apprehended
In a decisive move against criminal activities in Anambra State, southeast Nigeria, law enforcement officials have detained seven individuals suspected of involvement in cultism and armed robbery.
According to a statement by the state police command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrest comes amid ongoing efforts to apprehend Makuo Nwuso, alias Baby, and an unidentified accomplice.
During the operation, the police confiscated a cut-size double-barrel gun, an unregistered tricycle, and illicit substances.
The apprehended individuals are identified as Chukwuemeka Ozoekwe, Chidozie Anagor, Chukwuemeka Oyeoka, Ebuka Okoye, Olisa Obi, Chidubem Nwakwu, and Nwankwo Kosisochukwu.
The police action unfolded when operatives from the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS) intercepted a group near Unizik Junction. Despite attempts to flee, Chukwuemeka Ozoekwe was apprehended, leading authorities to further arrests.
Subsequent interrogations revealed the suspects’ affiliation with the Vipers Cult group, which has been implicated in recent disturbances within the Awka metropolis. The detainees admitted to planning robberies targeting motorists for their personal effects.
In response to the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police Fidelis Ogarabe emphasized the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat crime. He reassured residents that their confidence in the police and other security forces would not be overlooked.
The suspects are slated to face legal proceedings once investigations are concluded.
