FULL LIST: Ajibade, Nnadozie, Madugu Scoop Top Honours As Nigeria Dominates 2024 WAFCON Awards

Nigeria’s triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) has been crowned with a sweep of the tournament’s top individual awards, following their dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in Rabat on Saturday.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament after a string of standout performances, including three Woman of the Match awards. Though she scored just once during the competition, Ajibade’s leadership, relentless work rate, and influence in key moments proved vital in Nigeria’s charge toward their historic 10th WAFCON title.

Between the sticks, Chiamaka Nnadozie earned the Best Goalkeeper award. The Brighton FC shot stopper conceded just three goals all tournament — including a penalty in the semi-final and two in the final — showcasing the reflexes and command that anchored Nigeria’s resolute defense throughout the competition.

Nigeria’s interim head coach Justin Madugu also received recognition, taking home the Coach of the Tournament award. Appointed on a temporary basis, Madugu led the Super Falcons through early tournament doubts and into the final, where they came from two goals down to stun Morocco and secure the coveted trophy.

Despite falling short in the final, Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak was awarded the Golden Boot after netting five goals, including her side’s opener in the final match. South Africa, meanwhile, were honoured with the Fair Play Award in recognition of their sportsmanship during the tournament.

With the 3-2 win over Morocco, Nigeria completed “Mission X” — their pursuit of a 10th WAFCON title — cementing their legacy as Africa’s most successful women’s football team.
