FRSC Officer Abducted by Gunmen
An Inspector of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nathaniel Kumashe, was abducted by armed men on Wednesday night in Tse Aboh, a village in Uchi-Mbakor, Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State.
The incident occurred around 10pm on March 19, shortly after the officer returned from a wake-keep held in honour of his late cousin, whose burial was scheduled for the following day.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers arrived at Kumashe’s residence and fired gunshots into the air to disperse family members and neighbours before whisking him away. The gunmen reportedly fled the scene before local youths could mobilize a search party, which lasted through the night.
The spokesperson for the FRSC in Benue State, Ngozi Ahula, confirmed the abduction on Thursday in Makurdi. She said Inspector Kumashe is currently serving in Wannue, also in Tarka LGA.
Preliminary reports suggest the victim may have been taken to a hideout in neighbouring Guma Local Government Area, as efforts to locate him continue.
Authorities have not yet made any arrests, and no group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.
