Fresh Horror in Benue as Herdsmen Attacks Result in 12 Fatalities
Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have unleashed fresh attacks on Benue communities, leaving 12 dead and numerous others injured. The affected areas include Anyiin, Ayilamo, Iorza, and Gbeji in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
Eyewitnesses recount that the unprovoked attacks commenced last Monday, claiming three lives initially and escalating throughout the week. The assailants reportedly invaded homes and brazenly blocked roads in broad daylight, terrorizing residents and extorting money from helpless villagers.
A concerned eyewitness, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed desperation, urging the Benue State Government to intervene urgently and provide security for the defenseless population of Anyiin and its surrounding areas, currently under siege.
The attacks, carried out on a daily basis over the past two weeks, have raised concerns about the apparent lack of intervention from security operatives. The fleeing eyewitness highlighted the vulnerability of the affected communities, emphasizing the need for immediate protection.
In response to the tragic incidents, SP Sewuese Anene, the Benue State Police Command Spokesperson, confirmed the attacks and assured that the command had deployed personnel to restore peace in the troubled communities. Anene urged affected residents to remain calm as efforts are made to address the security challenges. The situation remains tense as the community awaits further developments and decisive actions to curb the recurring attacks.
