Four Seminarians Killed in Bus Crash at Obudu Ranch
Four seminarians from the Enugu Catholic Church lost their lives in a tragic accident on Saturday, May 3, during a visit to the Obudu Ranch Resort in Cross River State. The incident occurred at Ikwete village, located at the Bottom Hill area of the Ranch in Obanlikwu Local Government Area, as the group was returning from a tour. According to eyewitness accounts, the bus carrying the seminarians experienced brake failure and plunged into a valley, resulting in the immediate death of four occupants.
Nine other seminarians sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Obudu. The group was led by a Reverend Father and had just concluded a visit to the popular tourist destination before the accident occurred.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nsa Gill, Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu expressed profound sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He assured the public that the state government is in contact with the affected families and will provide necessary support.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims during this incredibly difficult time,” the governor said. “Emergency services at the Ranch Resort, including personnel from the Nigerian Army, responded promptly, and we are grateful for their swift action.”
The governor further emphasized the importance of safety at all tourist locations and announced that a review of current safety measures at Obudu Ranch would be undertaken to prevent future occurrences. He urged all visitors to ensure the roadworthiness of their vehicles and to adhere strictly to safety guidelines.
The government pledged to keep the public informed as more details become available.
