Four NSCDC Officers Arrested Over Bolt Driver’s Death in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arrested four officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in connection with the death of a Bolt driver, Henry Osewenkhai, in Benin City.

According to eyewitness accounts, Osewenkhai had taken a passenger to a hotel on Limit Road, off Sapele Road, on Tuesday when an altercation broke out. Witnesses said the confrontation began after a group of suspected internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as Yahoo boys, accused the driver of almost hitting them while he was exiting the hotel’s premises.

The situation escalated when the suspected fraudsters called in NSCDC officers, who reportedly joined in physically assaulting Osewenkhai. The driver later managed to report the incident at the Edo State police command but succumbed to his injuries soon after.

Edo Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, confirmed the arrest of the four NSCDC officers, stating that the police were shocked to learn of Osewenkhai’s death. Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
