Former President Goodluck Jonathan Loses Elder Sister
Madam Obebhatein Jonathan, the elder sister of former Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has passed away at the age of 70. The demise occurred today at the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, following a brief illness.
A statement released by the media office of the former president, as conveyed by Ikechukwu Eze, revealed that the late Madam Obebhatein Jonathan, affectionately known as Amissi, was not only a retired teacher and businesswoman but also a devoted mother and grandmother. Her life was marked by dedicated service to both God and humanity.
Described as a devout Christian, a virtuous woman, and a source of inspiration to many, Madam Obebhatein Jonathan’s passing has left a void in both her immediate community and beyond.
The statement further informed that the burial ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, February 16, 2024. Details of the funeral rites will be communicated by the family as the date approaches.
Madam Obebhatein Jonathan is survived by three children, siblings, including His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, and her mother, Mama Eunice Afeni-Jonathan. The former president expressed deep sorrow over the loss, and the nation mourns with the Jonathan family during this difficult time.
