Former Chief Registrar, Wife, Two Others Die in Fire Accident

On Sunday morning, former Chief Registrar of the Borno Cooperatives Society, Mallam Garba Bala Abubakar, along with his wife and two other family members, lost their lives in a devastating fire at their residence on Damboa Road, Maiduguri.

The fire, which is suspected to have been caused by an electrical surge, claimed the lives of Abubakar, his wife, and two female relatives. The details of the incident were confirmed by a family source who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

A close friend of the deceased took to social media to mourn the loss, describing Abubakar as a “very humble” and “down to earth” individual. “Not long ago, we had an extensive conversation about contemporary issues. I assured him I would visit him in his new house when next in Maiduguri. I had no idea it would be the last time I’d hear his voice,” the friend lamented in a heartfelt post.

The late Mallam Garba Bala Abubakar had retired as Chief Registrar of Cooperative Societies with the Borno State Government and was later employed by a private borehole drilling company.

The family members who perished in the fire have been buried in Maiduguri in accordance with Islamic rites. Efforts to reach the Director of the Borno Fire Service, Umaru Adamu, for further details were unsuccessful as his phone remained switched off at the time of reporting.
