“For those my tears offended, I’m sorry” — Roby Ekpo apologises after emotional podcast appearance sparks backlash
Nigerian media personality Roby Ekpo has issued a public apology following criticism of his emotional interview on The Honest Bunch podcast, where he spoke about the breakdown of his marriage to Mayowa Lambe.
In a post shared on Sunday via his social media page, Ekpo acknowledged the reactions that followed his viral appearance, during which he became visibly emotional while discussing the separation.
“For those whose tears I offended, I am sorry. Pain leaves the body in many forms,” he wrote.
He thanked supporters who reached out after the interview, noting that he has chosen to focus on recovery and personal development. According to him, the period has prompted a shift in priorities.
“My heart feels lighter and free… From this point, it’s my work, my career and my undying passion to be good to myself and be softer with myself. I am on a journey,” he added.
Ekpo also stated that he would no longer address the dispute publicly, adding that legal representatives are now handling related issues.
“Every other matter is being handled by my lawyers,” he said.
The statement comes after his estranged wife reportedly issued a cease-and-desist notice accusing him of defamation and demanding a public retraction, apology, and ₦100 million in damages. Ekpo has denied the allegations and rejected the financial demand.
The controversy began after his podcast appearance, where he spoke about alleged financial strain, emotional distress, and difficulties in the marriage. His comments triggered divided reactions online, with some viewers describing his openness as honest, while others criticised him for discussing private marital matters in public.
Tension around the case increased after reports surfaced that Mayowa had remarried in the United States, a development Ekpo said he learned about through social media.
