Footballer Raphael Dwamena, 28, Passes Away After Collapsing on Field

Raphael Dwamena, a revered 28-year-old footballer of KF Egnatia, tragically collapsed and succumbed to a fatal heart attack during a recent match.

Reports from the UK Mirror confirm the sudden passing of the former Ghanaian international, occurring during a match against Partizani Tirana. The distressing incident unfolded in the 23rd minute of the game, leading to the abrupt suspension of the match as medical personnel endeavored to revive Dwamena.

Despite immediate efforts, Dwamena was swiftly transported to the closest hospital in Kavaja. Tragically, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, as he experienced another heart attack.

The footballer had been conscious of a heart issue since 2017 when a defect was detected. In a bid to address this concern, he underwent the fitting of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) in October 2021, subsequent to collapsing during an Austrian Cup match. Despite these precautions, the recent fatal episode has deeply shaken the football community, shedding light on the unpredictability of such medical conditions in sports.
