Five Osun State University Students Among Ten Killed in Devastating Auto Crash

 

Osun State University has confirmed the loss of five of its students in a fatal auto crash that occurred on Sunday, March 23, along the Ife-Ibadan Expressway. The university, in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, said a total of ten people were killed in the accident, which took place around the Balogun area in Ikire.

 

According to official reports from the Nigeria Police and the Federal Road Safety Corps, the crash involved a head-on collision between a bus travelling from Ibadan and an 18-passenger bus that departed from Osogbo. Among the victims were five students of Osun State University: Olagbemide Dotun, a 200-level student of Software Engineering; Suleiman Farouq Adedayo, a 400-level Law student; Ogundare Pelumi, a 300-level student of Public Health; Ogundare Elijah, a 100-level student of Mechanical Engineering; and Olawuyi Mary, a 200-level Nursing student.

 

The university also reported that another student, Olagbemide Damilola, a 200-level student of Medicine and Surgery, survived the crash and is currently receiving medical treatment.

 

Describing the incident as a devastating blow to the university community, Adesoji noted that the management promptly dispatched a team to the accident scene to assist and identify affected students. He added that the university would provide moral and logistical support to the bereaved families, including assistance with funeral arrangements.

 

“This tragic loss has deeply shaken our university community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the deceased,” the statement read. “We urge our students, staff, and the entire university community to remain calm and supportive during this difficult time.”

 

The university assured that it would continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary.
