Fish Magnet: VDM Arrives in Anambra as Police Issue Strong Warning

The Anambra State Police Command has issued a strong warning to social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), cautioning him against actions or statements that could incite unrest in the state. The warning was issued in an official press statement on August 5 by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu.

VDM, who arrived in Anambra this week, had earlier announced plans to hold a candlelight procession in memory of the late Ifesinachi Onyekere, a prominent businessman and owner of the Fish Magnet outlet, who was abducted and killed last weekend in the Okpuno area of Awka South Local Government.

The influencer’s emotional response to the killing, shared in a widely circulated video, included plans to visit the state, stage a memorial walk through a local market, and raise awareness about the growing insecurity in the region.

However, CP Orutugu cautioned that any move likely to provoke public tension or threaten the state’s relative peace would not be tolerated. He revealed that the family of the deceased has officially distanced itself from any candlelight event or public gathering being organized in Onyekere’s name. According to the police, the family has asked to be allowed to grieve in private and expressed confidence in the authorities to investigate the crime.

The Commissioner emphasized that Anambra remains one of the most peaceful states in the region due to coordinated efforts by security agencies and local stakeholders. He warned that no individual—regardless of social influence—will be allowed to disrupt the prevailing peace.

CP Orutugu also called on residents and visitors to go about their lawful activities without fear, reaffirming the police command’s commitment to maintaining law and order. He further urged public figures and social media users to avoid spreading misinformation or making inflammatory remarks.

“Anyone found undermining public peace, either online or offline, will face the full weight of the law,” the statement concluded.
